V.            What if there were no artifacts?

Earlier, in a previous rendering, I stated that there was only one direct artifact from my Father.  I was being dramatic.  Actually two others written in his hand have been found.  One is a letter he wrote to my brother about his wishes for his funeral.  I saw this one.  He requested a simple ceremony with a pine box and my brother in his uniform.  Along with this is a form from a funeral home designating a style of coffin and the costs.

The other remnant is a few words found after his death, “I love you,” scrawled on the edge of a newspaper, left on the coffee table.  This is assumed to be a note to my mother, though he never gave it directly to her.  My father did not hand it to her or so she says.  Maybe she forgot.  In fact, I never saw this note.  Hearsay from my brother.  I wonder if he saw it or my mother told him about it.
